Add Delta Theta Sigma Nu to your will

Making a gift through your will and estate planning is a terrific way to support the chapter. HERE is a link to a flyer that describes how to make a gift to Knox College through a will, including some sample language on the second page.

In addition to naming Knox, you’d designate the purpose of supporting Sigma Nu. For example:

“I give [a percentage, a dollar amount, the remainder, or specific property] to Knox College, located in Galesburg, Illinois, for the purpose of supporting the Sigma Nu Chapter House Fund.”

You could also make an estate gift through a beneficiary designation on a retirement account or even a life insurance policy. You can usually do this online by logging into the account or by contacting the plan administrator. In addition to naming Knox College as the beneficiary, you would need to inform Knox of the intended gift and its designation for the Sigma Nu Chapter House Fund. You can do this by completing an Old Main Society form.

Knox College also recently launched a new gift planning website that might be helpful for brothers. It provides information about estate gifts, including a tool to complete a will online — or at least begin the process in preparation for meeting with an estate lawyer. The site also provides insights into a variety of non-cash giving options, such as the benefits of donating appreciated assets, gifts from donor-advised funds, distributions from IRA accounts, and even crypto gifts.

All of these gifting opportunities fall under Sigma Nu Alum, Brother Paul Steenis as director of gift planning for Knox College. He would be happy to work with anyone who might be considering a gift to Delta Theta Sigma Nu as well as to the College.

Paul can be contacted at: 800-KNOX-COL or psteenis@knox.edu.
