A round of applause for the brothers of Delta Theta Chapter of Sigma Nu who received the national fraternity’s “Regent’s Award for Academic Excellence (Top IFC GPA) – Spring ’23.”

Awards were selected based on review of Pursuit of Excellence Program self-assessments, award applications, chapter records for the 2023-2024 year, and academic data for the 2023 calendar year (as most campuses do not release spring grade data by the time of award selection, all academic awards are based on the prior calendar year – spring and fall 2023 terms for this year).

Each year, Sigma Nu Fraternity recognizes chapter-wide and individual accomplishments made by brothers and chapters across the country. Accomplishments recognized include: merit awards, Alpha Alumni Chapter Affiliate recognition, LEAD, Pursuit of Excellence, Rock Chapter (in Grand Chapter years), academics, manpower, as well as community service and philanthropy. Awards recognize an individual’s or chapter’s accomplishments for the previous academic year, or, sometimes an individual’s collegiate career. (For more information on winners, go to “Collegiate & Chapter Awards.”)

This not only lets active Sigma Nu members and alumni see their accomplishments recognized, this also provides a welcome opportunity for brothers to connect with and feel a sense of pride in the achievements of their fellow chapters. Many awards, such as the Academic Improvement Award, only go out and recognize one fraternity chapter, others are awarded to multiple chapters.

The Regent’s Award for Academic Excellence is one such award. The award recognizes the efforts of chapter members’ academic excellence during the 2023 calendar year (because many schools do not release spring term grades in time for the awards ceremony). The Regent’s Awards, specifically, recognize chapters’ success regarding their individual campus. That is to say, Delta Theta received The Regent’s Award for Academic Excellence due to having the highest GPA among the fraternities on the Knox College campus.

This is something that we will hold in great pride, just as our current Eminent Commander, Carter Pierson, does. When asked, he spoke of his pride over how the brothers “[studied] hard and [made] sure to make academics a priority.” We’ll continue on with pursuing success with his leadership this year.

Also, our current Lieutenant Commander and Scholarship Chair, Chris Andreou, had this to say about the award:

“I’m really proud of my brothers for going above and beyond in our studies. As scholarship chair I encourage the brothers to study together and try to organize a weekly study session. I also try to incentivize the brothers to attend these study sessions by using the budget to get things like stationary supplies and Sigma Nu swag. Ultimately, I praise my brothers for their excellence and am proud of them.”

It shows that the leadership those two bring and their methodologies are moving the chapter in the right direction. And with the 2024-2025 year starting up, those of us on campus will see them in action soon enough. If you’re a current brother, feel proud about what we have done and drop by this year for one of our study sessions! If you’re an alum, keep us in your hearts as we do our best to succeed in Knox’s competitive term program. And for every brother, new and old:

Go us!

Love, Truth, Honor.
