Vir Das hosting the 2024 International Emmy Awards
After winning an International Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series for his Netflix comedy special titled, ‘Landing’ just last year, Delta Theta Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity Alum Vir Das (Δθ 1146) hosted the International Emmy Awards in New York City on November 25th. Notably, Vir Das becomes the first Indian to host the International Emmy Awards.
Said Bruce L. Paisner, President & CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, “[w]e’re delighted to welcome back Vir Das to our stage and to add International Emmy® Host to his impressive list of talents. … With his unique humor and perspective on the world, he now joins a distinguished group of Gala hosts over the years who fit in perfectly with our global audience.”
For his part, Das commented, “I am so happy to be hosting the International Emmys. It’s a massive prestigious night to uphold makers from across a world that I believe, is making its best content. … I know first-hand how it can be life changing.”
Vir Das has been recognized as “one of the most famous stand-up comedians in India, who has managed to create a name for himself globally,” through television series and shows as well as touring in the United States.
Having seen Vir Das live at the Durham Theatre in North Carolina during his Manic Man World Tour, as well as watching a couple of his other Netflix specials, it is magical to see how Vir Das creates a rapport with his audience and sucks them into his practical, worldly humor in a George Carlin-esque sort of way.
Vir Das has appeared in eighteen movies, six television shows including a stand up skit on the Conan O’Brien show, multiple podcasts with Conan O’Brien, and nine webs shows on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and YouTube (see complete list here). He also gave the 2018 Commencement Speech at Knox College is lead singer of India’s comedy-rock band Alien Chutney. The Bollywood star is currently on his international “Mind Fool Tour” with stops in Vancouver Canada and the United States (Tacoma, Wilmington, Atlantic City, Huntington, Nashville, and New Brunswick) in March and April.
