Manager, Finance and Compliance at Illinois Alliance of Boys and Girls Clubs

One of my greatest honors was receiving my Certified Association Executive designation.

You can say I’m a hopeful individual as I remain a loyal Dallas Cowboys fan.

My favorite trip destination is Disney. It continues to hold a special place in my heart as my wife, Judy, and I celebrated our honeymoon there 21 years ago.

A good weekend for me would include an afternoon dedicated to yard work, and in a pre-COVID-19 world, a concert would also be included.

I am currently an Illinois Society of Association Executives, Board Member, and hold a United Way of Central Illinois Health Vision Council Chair. I am the current President of the Grand Central Neighborhood Association and a Springfield IL Railroad Project Stakeholder Advisory Committee member. I am an active volunteer at the Central Illinois African American History Museum.

Jim Sarenteas

Class of 1991, BA, JD

Attorney at Law, Adjunct Professor

Jim has been a licensed Illinois attorney since November, 1999. He is also passionate about mentoring law school students. For 17 years, he has been an appellate advocacy instructor and advocacy coach at the Loyola University Chicago School of Law. In that capacity, he guides students in moot law competitions, with several of his students winning top oral advocacy, brief, and team awards at the national level. In 2007, he was selected Advocacy Coach of the Year by the Loyola Advocacy Honors Program. And in 2012, the law school’s Board of Governors chose him for its prestigious St. Bellarmine Award in recognition of his distinguished contributions to the legal community. In 2010, Jim successfully argued the case of Pekin v. Pulte Insurance before the Illinois Appellate Court located in Chicago, where he successfully defended a regional homebuilder by obtaining insurance coverage wrongfully withheld by an insurance company. The consequence of the decision was to create a law that provided insurance to several other contractors in other cases where decisions were pending, awaiting the outcome of the appellate court decision Jim successfully obtained.

When the opportunity presents itself, Jim enjoys traveling with his wife, Kristen. He also continues to work closely with Business Networking International and the Chicago Bar Association. If he could relive one time of his life again, it would be his time at Knox College.

Class of 2022, Theater major, creative writing minor

I am an active member of the theater department. I enjoy working in plays consistently; I am an actor, a set builder, and a theater designer on occasion. One of my favorite accomplishments was writing an entire play last year before last, motivating me to write more.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with friends, hiking, and swimming. Some of my favorite pastimes are doing escape rooms and creating costumes for myself and my friends.
I live with a star named Sachmo, my cat; he gets recognized every other day in our new neighborhood. And I feel very honored to live with the first feline EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony).
After graduation, I plan to work for a cruise ship because many cruises have opportunities for those looking to get into entertainment. My ideal position would be to work as a backstage person on a cruise ship’s shows – helping musicians move their equipment, programming lighting, and working the soundboard. If anyone knows someone who is involved in the cruise line industry, please let me know! I’m still trying to figure out whom to talk to first/how to get started in this industry.
